We all have dark spots. Because we can always relate or recognize something. The crimes themselves target what we would call now transgender girls or transvestite boys. Were you leery of that? Were you careful to try to articulate who these young characters were in the context of their time, and our time as well? What makes this series stand out, I think, if we can hold the audience a mirror to our modern days.

To me, they are the unsung heroes. They are survivors.
